Bhutan, known as the "Kingdom of Happiness," is famous for its breathtaking natural landscapes and unique cultural heritage. However, in the past, traveling to Bhutan was challenging due to its complex visa application process and high costs. Visitors often had to pay an additional $100 per person per night for the sustainable development fee, along with other expenses such as guides, hotels, and meals. Nevertheless, these special requirements have created a unique appeal for Bhutan, attracting adventurous travelers who seek distinctive experiences.

According to Bhutan Airlines, the first flight connecting Vietnam and Bhutan will depart from Ho Chi Minh City and is expected to begin in January 2025. Bhutan Airlines plans to operate 20 round-trip flights annually between Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City) and Paro Airport (Paro, Bhutan), one of the world's most dangerous and challenging airports to land at.

Paro Airport, situated at an altitude of over 2,400 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains nearly 5,500 meters high, is renowned for its extremely challenging landing conditions. Pilots must navigate a short runway while contending with strong winds and turbulence within the valley.
The round-trip fare between Ho Chi Minh City and Bhutan is expected to be around $1,050 (approximately 26 million VND) for business class and $900 (approximately 22 million VND) for economy class, inclusive of all taxes and fees.

Mr. Pema Nadik, CEO of Bhutan Airlines, stated that the flights will be operated using Airbus A319 aircraft. He also emphasized that the launch of this direct flight route is part of the airline's strategy to meet the growing travel demand between the two countries, while also promoting connectivity and cooperation in the tourism sector. Additionally, it aims to create new opportunities for trade and cultural exchange.

The projected schedule for 10 direct flights connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Paro, Bhutan, by Bhutan Airlines in 2025 averages one flight per month.
Before the availability of this direct route, Vietnamese travelers wishing to visit Bhutan typically had to transit through Thailand or India, making the journey more complicated. The introduction of direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Paro is sure to create new opportunities for tourism and trade between the two countries.
